The 2023 Asian Shooting Championships officially began on October 24 in Changwon, South Korea, and the Vietnamese shooting team swiftly bagged their first bronze medal thanks to the outstanding performance of Trinh Thu Vinh in the women’s 10m air pistol event.
During the qualifying rounds, Thu Vinh achieved a score of 581 points, securing the 5th position and earning her place in the finals. In the final competition, she scored 219.7 points, ultimately finishing in third place and winning a well-deserved bronze medal. The gold medal in the shooting event was clinched by the South Korean shooter Oh Ye Jin with an impressive score of 244.1 points, while the second place was claimed by Jiang Ranxin from China, who scored 241.8 points. Palak Gulia of India, the reigning champion of the 19th Asian Games in this discipline, did not compete in the final round.
Vietnam fielded a team of 23 shooters for the competition to obtain more Olympic berths through their performance. Trinh Thu Vinh got an Olympic slot due to her exceptional performance at the 2023 World Championship in this event.
