Traffic snarls continue in city as holidaymakers return

Thousands of people continued to stream back into the city after the long public holiday until yesterday morning, causing severe traffic jams on many roads in the city.

Around 6:30 am, vehicles were brought to a near standstill on Binh Trieu crossroad. The traffic gridlock spread towards Binh Trieu 2 Bridge and then on towards the Mien Dong Bus Station in Binh Thanh District, lasting for over an hour in front of the station.

In the nearby Nguyen Xi Street, traffic came to a halt for over two hours on a kilometer long stretch at Do Bridge.

A severe traffic jam on Mai Thi Luu-Nguyen Van Giai streets in District 1 cleared after about two hours.

On all the city entry roads as well as several streets in Tan Binh, Tan Phu and Phu Nhuan districts, a similar situation occurred.

At the Tan Van crossroad in the national Highway1A, en-route to HCMC, an overturned truck caused traffic gridlock stretching to Suoi Tien tourist site in Thu Duc District.

The traffic turned chaotic in some inner city streets like Vo Thi Sau and Tran Quoc Thao as the traffic signals malfunctioned.
