Traditional performing artists and singers honored for artistic contributions

As many as 77 performing artists and singers of traditional Vietnamese theater and folk arts were given honorary awards and titles during a grand ceremony to show appreciation for their contributions to Vietnamese art and culture.

Many prestigious titles were given on stage and posthumously to outstanding traditional artists and late artists of Vietnamese folk genres, namely “People’s Artist”, “People’s Artisan”, “Emeritus Artist” and “Emeritus Artisan”.
The award show and ceremony was held by Ho Chi Minh City’s People Committee on the evening of November 22 at Saigon Opera House, and also featured performances from traditional folk singers and musicians.
Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan stressed the importance of preserving Vietnamese culture through various forms of art and music, hence the significance of the award show.
Many other leaders of the city attended the ceremony, including Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong and Standing Vice Chairman Le Thanh Liem.
