Since the beginning of the year, petrol and diesel prices have been slashed five times to total a decrease of VND3,200 and VND2,000 a liter, respectively.

Businesses that have maintained their haulage rates since the beginning of the year need not change or lower their rates. However those businesses that increased their rates when prices went up on two occasions will have to reduce haulage rates.

The haulage rates will begin to go down immediately and will be determined as per negotiation between transport companies and clients, said Mr. Hung.

Some taxi companies have also said that they are considering a fare reduction. At present, only few have slashed their fares by VND200-1,000 a kilometer.
