Ho Chi Minh City Mayor sent strict instructions Thursday to concerned districts falling on the metro Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien route to speed up site clearance work and hand over land space for the project, latest by September 30.
Chairman Quan, accompanied by Mr. Motonori Tsuno, head of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, was on a site visit to five related districts -- 1, 2, 9, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc.
So far, only district 9 and Binh Thanh district have completed the site clearance work.
Mr. Motonori Tsuno affirmed yesterday that the Japanese Government would increase the initial capital so that the project could be implemented soon.
The 19.7 kilometre Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route is scheduled to start construction by this year.
