Sellers, consumers become wary of Chinese milk

New brands like Hoa Lan Mat Troi and Hoa Lan Coi Xay Gio have appeared with the cartons clearly indicating their contents and expiry date.

Shops are reportedly refusing to stock dubious quality milk products. Luu Thi Kim Nhung, head of the Kim Bien market ( in HCMC ) management agency, attributed this to regular surveillance by her officers.

But she said they may be supplying milk without indications of origin directly to homes.

The city’s Department of Education and Training Wednesday asked its subdivisions and schools to monitor the food given to children. It instructed schools to buy only products with certificates of food hygiene and safety, especially milk products.

In Ha Noi, officials from the Health Department found 375 tons of Chinese-made milk at Hanoimilk company at the Quang Minh Industrial Park.

They also found containers of full cream milk powder without quality certificates and some milk products made in America, Australia, and New Zealand.

Tran Dang Tuan, general director of the company, admitted to selling them to another company. The inspectors sealed the containers and took some samples for tests.
