The VASEP said in 2017 Vietnamese seafood export reached over US$ 8.3billion, an increase of 18 percent compared to last year. Of these, shrimp export accounted for 46 percent, increasing 22 percent against 2016 to reach up to US$ 3.85 billion.
The key markets included European Union, the United States, Japan and China.
In the first quarter of 2018, the country’s seafood export showed good signs of growth with nearly US$ 1.8billion, an increase of 17 percent compared to the same period last year, said the VASEP.
The VASEP affirmed to tackle difficulties for domestic enterprises, boosting export to strive to reach this year’s export goal of US$ 9billion.
