Sa Pa town in the northern province of Lao Cai saw ice and snow for the first time this year in the O Quy Ho mountain pass yesterday.
Luu Minh Hai, deputy director of the province Hydro Meteorological Center said that a cold front, which moved into the northern region on Tuesday, has brought some rain and showers.
This has cause the region to be much colder, with temperature on the O Quy Ho mountain pass plunging to below minus degrees Celsius.
Hai said that the temperature might even drop to -10 degree Celsius, causing ice and snow to form in the Sa Pa town.
Over the last few days in the northern border province of Lang Son, the Mau Son Mountain has been blanketed with 2-3cm of ice and snow, with the mercury dropping to 2 degrees Celsius below zero.
The cold weather has also affected northern part of the central region, which include Quang Binh and Thua Thien-Hue provinces.
Yesterday, the temperature dropped to only 10 degrees Celsius in Vinh City of Nghe An Province and it was 12-14 degrees in Quang Binh.
