Rainy season to come by month-end

The National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center has predicted that the rainy season will come late this year. It will officially begin by the end of May or early June and ease the ongoing drought across the country.

In May, weather will remain hot and muggy despite some expected showers and thunderstorms. The center warned about fierce thunderstorms, cyclones, hails and gusts nationwide during this season change month.

Average temperatures will be a bit higher than that in many previous years to swing 27.5-28.5 degrees Celsius in Hanoi, 26.5-27.5 degrees in Hai Phong in the north and 28-29 degrees in the central cities of Hue, Da Nang and Nha Trang.

The mercury will hover around 25.5-26.5 degrees in the Central Highlands city of Buon Ma Thuot and 28-29 degrees in the Mekong Delta city of Chau Doc.

The East Sea might see 1-2 storms or tropical low pressure systems in May and they are unlikely to affect Vietnam’s mainland, the center forecast.
