Speaking at a meeting to mark the 94th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, June 21, Mr. Nhan appreciated contributions by the press to the cause of developing the country and the city.
The current scenario of many challenges and opportunities is a chance for reporters to continue contributing to the stability and development of the country, the Party Secretary said.
He expected them to continue being proud of and confident in their work as well as more responsible in contributing to the city’s development.
At the meeting, chairman of the city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong also appreciated the role of press agencies, saying that they have been siding with the city in propaganda of administrative reform in 2019 and implementation of Resolution 54 on piloting specific mechanism for the city’s development. He asked the press agencies to focus propaganda on party congresses of all levels and socioeconomic matters in the city as well as giving feedback and suggestions about these matters.
Summarizing operation of press agencies in the first half this year, director of the Department of Information and Communications Tu Luong said that the city now has 31 press agencies operating together with 161 press agencies from the central government and other localities. The human resource in the city’s press agencies totals 3,500 people including 1,300 reporters and editors who have been granted with journalist cards.
They have positively contributed in spotting, fighting and preventing corruption and waste, practicing administrative reform and organizing social and charitable activities.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Phong, editor-in-chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper proposed authorized agencies and local authorities to create the best condition for reporters to operate and work for efficient propaganda.
On this occasion, the Propaganda and Education Board of the city Party Committee signed a communication cooperation program with 15 municipal and central press agencies in 2019.
