Over 5,000 members of the Communist Youth Union walked in a Sunflower festival in Ban Nguyet (Crescent Lake) in Ho Chi Minh City's District 7 yesterday to mark the 8th anniversary of Tuoi Tre newspaper's “Uoc mo cua Thuy” (Thuy's dream) charity program for cancer children.

The event is aimed to call for more support for cancer children. Many activities such as musical performance, selling paper sunflowers folded by participants for fund-raising and scholarship giving ceremony which gave 75 scholarships each worth VND5 million (US$222.5) to needy cancer student in the South took place during the festival.
Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien attended the event and supported VND50 million to the program.
In Hanoi, the program granted 65 scholarships to kids in the North totally worth VND325 million. Before, the program gave 15 scholarships to cancer children in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue. Additionally, the program presented gifts to cancer inpatients in hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, the central city of Da Nang, Thua Thien-Hue province and Hanoi with total amount of VND160 million (US$ 7,122).
