About 2,570 recruits volunteered for the first enrollment in the army in Ho Chi Minh City.
Enlistment ceremonies were held on February 19 for nearly 6,000 young men in neighboring provinces including Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Long An, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Lam Dong, Tay Ninh and Binh Thuan.
The city has spent more than VND6 billion to support recruits in the first phase. The local authorities donated savings books and gifts to recruits in poverty and their families.
