Northern region reeling under cold spell

The northern region of Vietnam is reeling under extreme cold weather conditions with temperatures dropping to 3 degrees Celsius since Thursday, as a result of the cold front.

According to the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center, most of the provinces in the northern mountainous regions are experiencing severe cold with mercury levels dropping below 10 degrees Celsius.

The coldest temperatures were recorded on Mau Son Mountain in Lang Son Province, where temperatures were as low as 3 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures in Sa Pa District of Lao Cai Province were 5.6 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees in Sin Ho District of Lai Chau Province. Hanoi temperatures swung between 13-14 degrees.

Forecasts predict temperatures will further fall and cold will intensify and spread to the mid central region as well.

Cold spell will linger during the weekend and the northern region will continue to experience cold. By December 7-8 the region may be lashed with strong gales.
