The 9th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee closed on October 8 after Mr. Le Thanh Hai was re-elected the city's Party Secretary for the 2010-2015 term.

Mr. Hai was voted by the city's new 69-member Party Committee during the four-day Congress.
This term's three deputy secretaries are city chairman Le Hoang Quan, re-elected Nguyen Van Dua and newly-elected Nguyen Thi Thu Ha head of the Personnel Department of the City Party Committee.
The standing panel with 17 members were also elected.
Thirty - four officials were also selected to represent the city at the 11th National Party Congress in January 2011.
The city Congress resolution says that in the next five years, the southern metropolitan targets an average GDP growth rate of 12 per cent, or 1.5 times of the national figure.

The city would build a healthy cultural environment for the community, protect the environment, and take the initiative on climate change.
It would improve residents' living standards, ensure security and defence, and maintain political stability and social order.
HCM City would be a motivating force for the Southern Key Economic Zone and to contribute more to the country's industrialization and modernization, according to the resolution.
