The Golden Ball Awards 2012 gala celebrations were organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper at the Military Stadium in Tan Binh District in Ho Chi Minh City on May 7.
The organizers announced results of the highest awards, with the Golden Ball Awards 2012 for male player going to Huynh Quoc Anh of SHB Da Nang team. The Golden Ball Awards 2012 for female player went to Dang thi Kieu Trinh of the Ho Chi Minh City team.
As the peak period of V-League 2013 and players of Vietnam women’s national football team are preparing for the Asian 2014, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and leaders created the best conditions for nominated players on the list to be present in Ho Chi Minh City for the gala awards ceremony.
SHB Da Nang with a brilliant track record had three excellent players on the nomination shortlist. One of the three best players is attacker Huynh Quoc Anh who was honored for the first time. Besides that, Gaston Merlo who is the best Argentinean players was awarded ‘Best Foreign Player’ winning over two colleagues Antonio of Xuan Thanh- Saigon Club (XT.SG) and Timothy (Hanoi Club).
Dang Thi Kieu Trinh who is the best goalkeeper of Ho Chi Minh City team was honored for the second time, winning over colleagues such as Kim Hong, Ngoc Anh, Le Thi Thuong and Nguyen Thi Muon. With the title of Vietnam Golden Ball 2012 Kieu Trinh was not a surprise choice as recently she was voted ‘Best Female Goalkeeper in Southeast Asia’ at the AFF Gala Awards in Malaysia.
