Because of effect of low pressure, persistent heavy rains shouldered over Hanoi and northern provinces for past three days, reported the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center.

A man in Ha Long city of Quang Ninh province died in a dike collapse. According to the latest news from the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province, heavy rains flooded many houses in Cam Pha and Ha Long city. Landslide also occurred in some roads, causing long hour traffic jam.
The highest rainfall on Co To Island was measured at 260 mm.
From last midnight to this morning, rescue forces in collaboration with hundreds of effected families move their furniture and electricity equipments to safety places.
Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province Mr. Nguyen Duc Long visited Ha Long city during rainfalls and asked city authorities to overcome difficulties after the natural disaster.
The Central Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center added that heavy rains swept through Yen Bai, Lao Cai and Ha Giang from last night to this morning. By this morning, the rainfall was measured at 40- 110 mm in some places of Cao Bang and Hanoi.
The heavy rains are predicted to continue hitting Thanh Hoa, Son La, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong.
Besides, the Gulf of Tonkin, the northern territorial waters and the center of East Sea will see mostly showery and strong wind of level 5- 8.
Deputy Director of the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center Mr. Le Thanh Hai predicted the rainy weather would run until July 7 with its total rainfall of 50- 200 mm.
