HCMC takes care ethnic minority groups in Tet festive

Around 2,445 poor ethnic minority households in Ho Chi Minh City escaped poverty line, said a meeting to review social care for ethnic minority in the city on January 7.

Around 2,445 poor ethnic minority households in Ho Chi Minh City escaped poverty line, said a meeting to review social care for ethnic minority in the city on January 7.

This news was released by a representative from the city’s Ethnic Minority Board at the meeting. Speaking at the meeting, a representative said that the city People’s Committee approved to exempt Cham and Khmer ethnic students at preschool to senior high schools.

Moreover, the Ethnic Minority Board has given gifts and scholarships worth over VND1.2 billion to poor ethnic minority people and students. Leaders in 24 districts also allocated VND3.1 billion to take care of 8,000 households.

Accordingly, as many as 2,445 poor ethnic minority households’ living condition is getting better.

Deputy Chairman of the city People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan proposed the board to help poor households of ethnic minority groups more.  These households with income of VND16 million per head  per year will be granted free health insurance cards; these families close to poverty line with income of VND21 million per head per year will be supported by 75 percent on purchasing health insurance card.

The city allocated VND520 billion to take care poor households and close to poverty line for a happy Tet holidays.
