HCMC strengthens multifaceted cooperation with Singapore

Ho Chi Minh City always focuses on development of multifaceted cooperation relations with Singapore, especially in the fields of education and high technology, strongly affirmed Secretary of the  city Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan at the meeting with new Singaporean Consul General to the city Kho Ngee Seng Roy yesterday.

At the receipt, the city Party chief appreciated the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Singapore, including the good relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore.

The city is urgently preparing for Party congresses at all levels, including urban development and management, household and transport development, wastewater treatment and real estate management are defined strategies. Therefore, the city authority wants Singapore as a strategic partner in these sectors. 

Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan informed socio- economic issues as well as development direction of Ho Chi Minh City, including both opportunities and challenges.

Ho Chi Minh City has always focused on development of cooperation relations in all fields with Singapore, especially in the fields of education and high technology; and considered development of high- tech industrial parks as an important motivation for economic development. 

Regarding the educational cooperation, the city leader expressed his desire to increase the numbers of schools towards international standards through promoting cooperation with the partner on training principals, improving qualifications of teachers. 

Business management, finance and banking, state management, media information, artificial intelligence, automation, health and travel are seven sectors of university- educational cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore, said Mr. Nhan. 

Mr. Kho Ngee Seng Roy thanked for the warm welcome of Ho Chi Minh City leaders, and he highly appreciated the city’s role as a dynamic hub. This is the reason why the city’s tourism growth increased 40 percent in 2018 and Singaporean firms considered HCMC as a leading investment and business destination. 

40 Singaporean enterprises have just arrived in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to connect with creative start-up companies, said he. 

In this visit, Singapore officially announced the expansion of the Global Innovation Alliance- GIA 1 in HCMC with a goal of connecting Singapore's technological startup companies with the innovational market in Vietnam and promoting cooperation ties between Singapore and Vietnam.
