The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has asked the Government’s permission to get Japanese official development assistance (ODA) loans for construction of underground metro routes 3a and 3b.

The 3a metro will stretch over 9.7 kilometers linking Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Mien Tay Bus Station in Binh Tan district. Total investment capital is estimated at VND32.2 trillion (US$1.43 billion).
The 3b route will connect Cong Hoa crossroads in District 3 with Hiep Binh Phuoc ward in Thu Duc district. The 12.1 kilometer work is expected to cost VND33.7 trillion (US$1.50 billion).
In 2012, the city started building the first metro line Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien at a total capital of US$2.49 billion from Japanese ODA loans and the state budget.
