HCMC hosts Mekong Delta Week

Mekong Delta Week in Ho Chi Minh City aims to strengthen economic cooperation and cultural exchange between the Mekong Delta provinces and HCMC, scheduled to take place during the first half of this month.

The event organized by the the Mekong Delta Economic Co-operation-Kien Giang 2010 Forum includes two major activities: a photo exhibition and the Mekong Delta Trade and Tourism Fair 2010.

The photo exhibition called “The Cooperative Achievements in Economy between the Mekong Delta and HCMC” is being held at Lam Son Park, opposite the HCMC Opera House, in HCMC’s District 1, from June 1 to 14.

120 pictures taken by both professional and amateur photographers portray the 13 delta provinces, their people and economic achievements and reflect the socio-economic strides made thanks to cooperation between themselves and HCM City.

Meanwhile, the Mekong Delta Trade and Tourism Fair 2010 will be held at the Phu Tho Indoor Stadium from June 10 to 14.

More than 500 booths of enterprises from the Mekong Delta region and the city will display their products from various sectors such as agriculture, food processing, aquaculture, textiles, leather, garments, fashion, construction materials, chemicals, tourism, banking, telecommunications, insurance and others.

The stadium is decorated with typical images from the Mekong Delta: floating markets, boat racing, rice fields, bamboo bridges and others.

Visitors will have a chance to enjoy traditional music performances, food fairs and folk games of the region.

The Mekong Delta Week, celebrating the 1,000th anniversary of the founding Thang Long – Hanoi, enhances tourism, investment and trade promotion of the region; introduces delta services, products, images and beauty to the local and foreign people in the city.
