Leading food companies in HCM City, which piled up large volumes of stocks for Tet, have stepped up supply to keep prices stable even as demand has begun to peak in the week before the Lunar New Year, SGGP has found.

Van Duc Muoi, deputy general director of food company Vissan, said the company has abundant stocks, 20 percent higher than last year, to meet demand.
It has an inventory of 3,500 tons of pork, 550 tons of beef, and 2,000 tons of processed food, he said.
Cau Tre Export Processing JSC has 129.6 tons of processed food and 103.67 tons of raw materials for processing.
Other leading food companies like Huynh Gia Huynh De and Phu An Sinh also said they are ready to step up supply if needed.
French supermarket Big C is offering 5-25 percent discounts on 200 fresh foods.
At Foocoomart, 1,000 items are on sale at 15-20 percent lower than market prices.
Saigon Co.op said it is selling 2,800 items at 10 percent lower than market prices and would sell 1,000 items at 40 percent below market prices from February 10 to 13.
Bui Hanh Thu, deputy general director of Saigon Co.op, said her company has in stock 1,000 tons of fruits and vegetables.
The supply of fruits and vegetables at supermarkets and traditional markets has increased sharply. While vegetable prices remain stable, some fruits have edged up by 5-7 percent.
Thirteen businesses that are taking part in the city’s price stabilization program are working to prevent a rise in the prices of consumer goods, an annual occurrence during Tet.
