Ho Chi Minh City officially launched an automated weighing software system at four major solid waste treatment facilities today, April 1, 2026. This deployment follows new operational procedures issued by the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment to modernize waste management tracking across the city.
The automated system is now active at the Tay Bac (Northwest) Solid Waste Treatment Complex, covering Landfill No. 3 managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Environment Company, as well as specialized plants operated by Vietstar Joint Stock Company and Tam Sinh Nghia Investment and Development Joint Stock Company. Additionally, the software has been implemented at the Da Phuoc Integrated Waste Treatment and Cemetery Complex for the landfill site managed by Vietnam Waste Solutions Company (VWS).
In addition, waste treatment facilities located in Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau provinces will begin operating the automated weighing system on April 15.
Nguyen Hong Nguyen, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment, stated that relevant units have been guided in implementing the system in accordance with established procedures. All waste transport vehicles entering treatment facilities will be identified via eTag identification tags affixed to windshields or headlights, capturing information such as license plates, company details, and waste origin from transfer stations.
All weighing data will be managed within the system and stored for 10 years, serving purposes such as payment settlement, inspection, auditing, and state management. According to Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Nguyen, the automated system will operate in parallel with the existing paper-based process until June 30. From July 1 onward, state management agencies will rely exclusively on data from the automated weighing system.
