A meeting was held in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday, January 4, to celebrate the 54th National Day of Cuba.

Despite the geographical distance, the revolutionary ideals and goals have united the two nations during the past struggle for national liberation and the current process of national reconstruction for the last 54 years, said Hoang Thi Khanh, Chairwoman of the HCMC Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Organization.
The Party, Government and people of Vietnam and Cuba have stood shoulder to shoulder to surmount difficulties and mark achievements in national development, she said.
HCMC has constantly supported the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, she added.
On his part, Gabriel Perez Tarrau, Consul General of Cuba in HCMC, thanked Vietnam for having demanded that the US end its embargo to Cuba.
Mr. Tarrau informed that Cuba has implemented measures to boost economic reforms, resulting in a growth rate of 3.4 percent in 2012 and plans to raise GDP growth rate to 3.7 percent in 2013.
