According to the municipal Management Authority for Urban Railways, about 56 percent of the works have been completed, including the tunnel between Ba Son station and Opera House, Iifrastructure at Tham Luong depot, underground section from Ben Thanh station to the municipal Opera House station.
In 2018, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has temporarily suspended the allocation of ODA to the project because of legal obstacles related to investment adjustments.
The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has given an advance of nearly VND3,300 billion (US$143 million) for the project since 2016 till date.
The HCMC Management Authority for Urban Railways has proposed the city’s government to give an advance to pay 80 percent amount of the total work done and solve problems and help get the project back on track.
Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen asked local authorities of districts to have to take responsibility for site clearance and compensation; coordinate with relevant departments to remove obstacles and make reports to the municipal People's Committee and the city’s Management Authority for Urban Railways.
