A hair design contest entitled “A thousand year of hairstyles” featuring Hanoi’s hairstyles from 1010 to 2010, launched June 1 and will run through August 10.

The contest will give people a chance to have a clear view of the changes Vietnamese hairstyles have gone through during various historical periods in the capital, such as the gentle and righteous hairdos of the feudal era and that of French domination, and the modernist strength Vietnamese women of the present reflected in their hairstyles.

The competition is for Vietnamese hair designers at home and abroad between 18 and 40 years of age.

The contest is divided into two categories including “Past” featuring different ways the hair was worn up, and “Present,” focusing on curly hairstyles.

Contestants must send photos of their designs and video clips, showing the process by which hairstyles are created, to the Tra Giang International Company, (located at 55 De Quai Street Tay Ho District in Hanoi), before August 10.

The final night will be held at Daewoo Hotel on August 27 and broadcast live on Vietnam TV’s VTC1 channel.

Tra Giang International Company, the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi, Selective Professional hair care products and Chihtsai Hair Care, organized the hair design contest jointly.
