French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Vincent Floreani delivered an introduction of the residence’s history as well as modern and old paintings and ornamental exhibits including painting Dam ruoc trong lang of famous artist Nguyen Gia Tri.
Covering the area of over 1.5 hectare, the residence has old big trees with different kinds of bird. The opening of the residence to the public was initiated by the French Ministry of Culture in 1984 with the name “Opening Festival of Heritage”
Many local and international visitors went on a tour of all halls in the Consulate General residence.
Last year, the Consulate General of France in Ho Chi Minh City welcomed more than 1,300 visitors.
The nearly-150-year-old building was constructed in 1872, well before the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Saigon and 14 years before the city’s Central Post Office. It has maintained its original architecture for more than a century and preserved numerous antiques of Asia of great historical and cultural value.
