Festival of terracotta and porcelain to debut in September

For the first time, the southern province of Binh Duong will host a festival to terracotta and porcelain works and those who make them. This festival also commemorates the 65th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.

The event, entitled “Vietnamese terracotta and porcelain – Tradition – Origin and Development” opens to public from Sept 2 to 8 at five venues: Thu Dau Mot Town Stadium, Binh Duong Culture Center, Binh Duong Museum, Thanh Le Culture Park and Dai Nam Van Hien Tourist Park; all located in Thu Dau Mot Town.

The festival will include several activities such as an opening ceremony alit with fireworks, shooting and live music at the Thu Dau Mot Town Stadium; a food fair; a terracotta fair featuring works made in China, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam; an exhibition of ancient terracotta and porcelain works; a contest for local craftsmen; a photo exhibition and live musical performances. 

Other activities related to local tourism will also be presented at the festival.

Addressing the press June 23 in Ho Chi Minh City, organizing Binh Duong Province officials, said they viewed the event as an opportunity to honor the culture of terracotta and porcelain and introduce it to tourists, especially foreigners and to highlight the potentiality of these two fields to foreign investors.

The festival is a step in the preparation process of building a Center for Preserving Terracotta and Porcelain in the future, organizers emphasized.

Binh Duong Province People’s Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will present the festival.
