Czech Embassy celebrates National Day in HCMC

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Vietnam held a ceremony celebrating the 105th anniversary of the Czech National Day (October 28, 1918 – 2023) in HCMC on October 23.

On behalf of the leaders and people of the southern metropolis, Vice Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee Ngo Minh Chau expressed his sincere thanks to the Government and people of the Czech Republic for support in the struggle for national independence and reunification, building the country, and mutual donation to assist the two countries in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

He emphasized that the official visit to Vietnam taken by Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala in April has great meaning and brought the Vietnam-Czech Republic relations to a new height.

The Czech Republic has 15 projects in HCMC with a total registered investment capital of about US$9 million, ranking 45th in the list of 120 countries and territories with investments in the city.

The Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee hoped that the city would strengthen cooperation with the Czech Republic in the fields of economy, tourism, people-to-people exchange, education, and training high-quality human resources to serve the sustainable development of the city.

For his part, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Vietnam, Hynek Kmonicek said that the Vietnamese people is the third biggest minority group in the country, after Ukrainians and Slovaks. More than 300,000 Vietnamese people who studied in the former Czechoslovakia and the contemporary Czech Republic have significantly contributed to the relationship between the two countries.

Four high-ranking delegations of the Czech Republic have paid visits to Vietnam for over one year, including the official visit to Vietnam taken by Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala. Czech car manufacturer, Skoda Auto is building a production plant in Quang Ninh province. The carmaker plans to produce around 30,000 cars in Vietnam next year. An average of 90 Czech visitors visit Phu Quoc island city in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang every week, he added.
