In a letter to local governments on December 21, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien asked medical workers to step up efforts to treat collapsed tunnel workers and the government will cover all hospital charges.

The health minister asked people’s committees in the central highlands province of Lam Dong, the central provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh and the northern provinces of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Vinh Phuc and health departments to provide the best treatment to workers who had been isolated after a 20-meter long section of the under-construction tunnel Da Dang Da Chomo hydropower plant in Lac Duong District collapsed on December 16.

Local governments should visit victims and support victims’ families in traveling from the countryside to hospital in Lam Dong to take care of their relatives. Medical workers should help victims stabilize their psychology.

Health Minister also added that in case to need help from large hospitals, the General Hospital in Lam Dong should contact their counterparts in Ho Chi Minh City.
