Cement exports sharply increase

According to the Foreign Trade Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, exports of clinker and cement continued to post strong growth, reaching roughly 2.5 million tons, worth US$105 million in February.
With an average export price of $42 per ton, up 18.3 percent, cement exports were 15.2 percent higher in volume and 36.3 percent higher in value compared to the same period last year. In the first two months, cement exports touched 5.37 million tons, worth $228 million, up 7.4 percent in volume and 29.9 percent year on year.
The Philippines, China and Bangladesh remained the three main export markets of Vietnamese cement with 2.1 million tons, accounting for more than 75 percent of total clinker and cement exports of the country.
From 2017 to now, China increased importing clinker from Vietnam, contributing greatly to export growth of clinker and cement. Cement exports to China exceeded 21 million tons in 2017 and reached 31.6 million tons, worth more than $1.24 billion last year.
Consumption of cement from the beginning of this year was sluggish on domestic market. According to cement manufacturers, as the Tet holidays fall on January and February, the consumption of cement was poor.
