According to Lien, with the price of petrol increasing three times within just one month, taxi companies are gearing to adjust fares by at least five percent.

The Hanoi Transport Association has asked coach businesses to defer an increase until after National Day Holiday. However, the final decision rests on the businesses.

The same day, Nguyen Manh Hung, chairman of the Vietnam Automobile Transport Association, said that a transport fee increase is unavoidable.

Repeated periodic increases in the price of petrol have caused difficulties for businesses, as it is very costly for them to adjust the transport fee so frequently, he added.

Mr. Hung also said that it is time for the fuel price subsidized fund and import tariff policy to control petrol pricing.
