Buddha statue recognized as the longest in Asia

A statue of Lord Buddha attaining Nirvana on top of Ta Cu Mountain at the Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda in Ham Thuan Nam District has been recognized as the tallest statue of Buddha atop a mountain peak.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the central province of Binh Thuan and the local government organized a ceremony on May 30 to mark this recognition. On the occasion, Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, Director General of Asia Book of Records, granted a document to the Monks of Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda.

According to Nguyen Ngoc Hanh, vice director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the province, the recognition of the statue of the Buddha attaining Nirvana on Ta Cu Mountain affirms the historical value of Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda.

Situated on Ta Cu Mountain, this statue of the Buddha attaining Nirvana is in a recumbent position. The statue is 49 meters long and 12.2 meters high. It was built between 1963 and 1966 by architect Truong Dinh Y.

Before, the statue of Maitreya Buddha in the Chua Phat Lon on Cam Mountain in An Hao Commune in Tinh Bien District in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang had been recognized by the Asia Book of Records as the biggest in Asia.
