Transport Minister Dinh La Thang yesterday criticized the chief of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CCAV) for wrong landing of a Vietjet Air flight last week.
Transport Minister Dinh La Thang reprimanded CCAV’s chief for late report of the incident to the ministry and for adjusting the air carrier route. Minister Thang also sent his apology to passengers for the incident.

Nearly 200 passengers who bought air tickets from Hanoi to the Central Highlands city of Da Lat went on board the flight VJ 8575 of Vietjet Air on June 19. However, the flight crew landed at the Cam Ranh airport near the beachside city of Nha Trang instead of Da Lat meanwhile Vietjet Air flight VJ8575 from Hanoi to Nha Trang on the same day was delayed one hour.
Minister Thang said that this was a serious incident, adding that related agencies had to be responsible for the incident because of license granting and flight instruction and management. Consequently, he asked related departments and agencies to verify each individual’s responsibility for the incident.
Vietjet Air must learn the lesson seriously and recruit experienced personnel. In addition, the carrier leaders have to punish involved persons.
In its press release, Vietjet Air said that the flight had to change its destination because of strong wind in Da Lat which is unfavorable for safe landing; as a result, pilot decided to land on Cam Ranh Airport. Yet according to an investigation team of aviation safety at CAAV, the planners and the crew of Vietjet Air flight VJ 8575 must take responsibility for the incident.
They received the work suspension for failing to work in accordance with the standard flight operation process.
