A series of cultural activities are being held to mark Vietnamese Women’s Day at the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Cultural House on October 20.

One of highlights of the event is an exhibition featuring portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers by painter Dang Ai Viet.
The exhibits have been selected from hundreds of works of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in 24 cities and provinces, whom the artist personally met during her cross-country trip.
The paintings depict the different faces of Heroic Mothers whose sons and daughters died in the American War. The works show their happiness as well as their sorrow.
Painter Dang Ai Viet, 62, is the wife of late People's Artist Pham Khac. She travelled from Ho Chi Minh City to paint portraits of Heroic Mothers living across the nation.
On this occasion, the L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Awards were granted to three young Vietnamese scientists in Hanoi on October 19, including Ung Thi Dieu Thuy of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Tran Van Khanh of Hanoi Medical University and Hoang Bich Thao of Thai Nguyen Agriculture and Forestry University.
Flower prices have stabilized at flower shops in Ho Chi Minh City. Only the price of roses has increased, about VND280, 000 for a bunch of 50, up by 200 percent compared to other days.
