The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the HCMC Urban Environment Company yesterday gave 1,200 trash bins to districts 1, 3, 4, and 12.
Each district will have 300 bins. Director of the company Huynh Minh Nhut said that the city is focusing on seven programs including environment pollution reduction meanwhile it has produced nearly 7,000 tons of wastes excluded 8 tons of waste thrown in streets and canals each day.
Averagely, environment workers have fished out 5-6 tons of waste a day therefore trash bins, which will be placed in public areas, help reduce waste thrown away in streets.
Currently, the city spends VND2 trillion collecting and treating waste yet it has not satisfied expectation because some residents still throw waste in streets because of low awareness.
Recently, the government has issued regulations of environment which says that throwing waste in streets and drainage systems will be fined VND5-7 million or scattering waste in public places will be fined VND3-5 million.
