The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Ho Chi Minh City's Center of Urban Flood Control signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday to increase the capacity of the Binh Hung wastewater treatment plant in the city to 512,000 cubic meters per day.

The MOU is for the second phase of the project to improve the sewerage system and wastewater treatment.
Toshio Nagase, deputy chief of JICA in Vietnam, said that Japanese experts would train human resources for the center and send specialists to operate and maintain wastewater treatment plants.
In the first phase, the Binh Hung plant was built in Binh Chanh District with a total capacity of 141,000 cubic meters per day. The plant is a major part of the water environment improvement project in the city.
