VN-Index climbs for third day

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index, which tracks 281 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, accelerated on March 8 thanks to blue-chip stocks, however, investors became wary.

The benchmark grew 1.53 percent, or 7.16 points, to finish at 475.38 points.

On the index, 99 stocks rose, 115 dropped, while 72 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse raised by 26 percent in volume and 28 percent in value over the previous trading session as 29.85 million shares changed hands at a value of VND700 billion.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, remained on the top position on the list of most active shares in volume with 1.72 million shares changing hands.

Vietnam Mechanization Electrification & Construction Joint Stock Company (MCG) tagged along with 1.43 million shares changed hands.

Petrovietnam Fertilizer & Chemical Corporation (DPM) ranked third with 746,840 shares.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company (HAG) jumped the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to close at VND46,200.

PetroVietnam Finance Joint Stock Corporation (PVF) rallied for three consecutive days, gaining 4.95 percent to VND21,200.

Vinpearl Joint Stock Company (VPL), which advanced for eight straight days, and Saigon Beverages Join Stock Company (TRI), which rebounded the first time in five days, both edged up 4.88 percent to VND64,500 and VND4,300 respectively.

Becamex Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company (IJC) and Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) both tumbled 5 percent to VND11,400 and VND3,800 respectively.

CMC Corporation (CMG) eroded 4.94 percent to VND15,400.

Bao Minh Insurance Corporation (BMI) slid 4.93 percent to VND13,500.

The smaller bourse in the north continued to finish in red as the Hanoi’s HNX-Index of slipped 0.66 percent, or 0.6 points, to close at 90.05 points. Trading volume drained by 20 percent over the previous trading session as 30.1 million shares worth VND405.8 billion changed hands.

Meanwhile, the UPCom-Index of unlisted shares market slightly rose 0.1 points to 39.15 points this morning. A total of 185,355 shares changed hands at a value of VND2.1 billion as of 11:15 am local time.
