Themed “Sex Education for Teenagers”, the project - financed by Kotex, a Kimberly Clark sanitary napkin brand - commenced in Ha Noi on the November 2.

Approximately 10,000 schoolgirls from over 120 schools participated in this special 45-minute sessions during which they watched informative video images of real life situations concerning sex and feminine issues appropriate to their age, besides health and hygiene matters.

The students could also consult experts on the spot.

Sex education is not included any official curriculum at Vietnamese high schools although biology classes do teach certain human reproductive functions.

Recently, a group of students from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanity has conducted an interesting survey on secondary students’ sex knowledge.

23.1% of the 76 schoolboys and 96 schoolgirls surveyed (all aged 17-18) said babies are born from the anus, 9.8% said they were ignorant while quite a few naïve students said they are born from armpits.

One even said babies are born from belly-buttons.
