Viet Nam expects to welcome 4.2-4.4 million international arrivals in 2007, about 600,000-800,000 higher than this year, the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism said.
The government tourism body said the number of domestic tourists next year is estimated to be 18.5 million, up about one million from this year.
The body has urged strong development in personnel training as one of the measures to achieve the targets. It said Viet Nam lacked tourist guides and personnel in general to ensure sustainable and fast development.
One of the reasons, according to the administration, is graduates from tourism schools are not well trained for their jobs.
Viet Nam now has 234,000 direct and 550,000 indirect workers in the hospitality industry, equal to 2.5% of the country’s total workforce, according to the body. Of them, 42.5% have been trained.
