VIDEO:HCMC students expect support for startup ideas

Gathering at the meeting themed “HCMC students volunteer to build modern city”, students proposed an intermediate channel to connect their startup ideas with firms to seek for investors.
Student Huynh Tuan Cuong from the Nature Science University said that an intermediate channel could be a website for startup people.
Students can post their startup ideas with details and enterprises can decide what to invest in, he said.
A student of Economics- Law University said that students have many good startup ideas that they have voiced at the competitions for startup people; some of them even won prizes at the competitions; however, very a few of ideas have become true.
Therefore, students proposed that leaders should have policies to support startup projects.
Additionally, students urged leaders to support them in research for new products according to firms’ requirements. Moreover, young researchers should be assigned to make competitive products in the fields of agriculture, fishery to help farmers and breeders in outlying districts.
To praise students’ startup spirit, students expected to have more groups, clubs or forum where students connect with their peers of same ideas as well as they can find out financial support from groups, clubs.
Upon building a smart city, students said that in addition to increasing information of positive lifestyle amongst young people, agencies should organize meetings to respect and praise good examples in the community; for instance, local administrations can launch movement “ Good news in a day, good story in a week”.
Besides, students mentioned to use intelligent applications to handle traffic congestion, inundation, to improve English teaching and learning quality in schools, treatment quality in hospitals, public traffic.
Deputy Chairman of People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen expected students to voice their creative ideas because Japan has outlined technology project 5.0 which shows IT always develops without cease.
Accordingly, startup ideas must become true. The city has good human resource but it needs to connect them together who will help building HCMC to be a smart city .
Mr. Tuyen said that city leader would put any good startup products and ideasin top priority for investment. He called for students’ contribution of their ideas to four centers including open code date center, general monitoring center, strategy simulation and IT centers which the city will build.
Chairman Phong affirmed that city leaders would facilitate students’ research and startup ideas. One million students are pursuing studies in the city who will contribute greatly to the city’s growth.
Mr. Phong said that in fact the proportion of land area set aside for transport accounts for only 8.5 percent of the space for constructing urban facilities, far below the 22 percent target set by the government.
City leaders are listening to ideas of students – young intellectuals – in solving traffic problem for seven million motorbikes and 700,000 cars with the population of over 13 million.
Chairman Phong said that city leaders appreciate students’ opinions in smart urban project and other projects.
