At least two people, one man and one woman, died last week in HCM City because of holes in the road.

A man who was riding a bicycle in downpour fell on a culvert and died of suffocation on To Ngoc Van road, Thu Duc District on the afternoon of October 10.
The downpour flooded the area so the man couldn’t see the culvert. Many people saw the accident and tried to help the man but he was swept away by the water. After over 30 minutes, people found his body and his bicycle stuck in the middle of the culvert.
One day ago, on October 9, a woman who was carrying her son on a motorbike died after she hit a hole on Kha Van Can road, also in Thu Duc district, fell on the road and was ran over by a truck.
Her son fell onto the other side thus luckily escaping death.

Many local people complained to VietNamNet that whenever it rains, many culverts on the road have become “traps”. They voluntarily pitched warning plates at such sites but couldn’t cover all because there are so many holes.
