Thu Duc District has spent around VND17 billion (US$ 795,414) to support poor people and beneficiaries of social policies on upcoming Tet ( Lunar New Year) holidays, said Thuong Thi Phuong, head of the district Department of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs in Ho Chi Minh City in a meeting with the municipal People’s Council Economic and Budgetary Committee yesterday.
According to Mrs. Phuong, total sum is taken from the state budget of VND12.5 billion (US$584,863) and from social contribution. As per the plan, district leaders will give VND2.1 million (US$ 98.2) to senior cadres, heroic Vietnamese mothers and seriously wounded soldiers and VND1.1 million to martyr relatives and participants before the revolt.
Around 9.653 wounded and sick soldiers, martyrs’ grown-up children, and retired cadres received VND800,000 (US$ 37.5).
In addition, district authority will also give VND400,000 (US$ 18.79) to orphans, children living with HIV, sexually-abused children and drug addicts who are detoxifying in rehabilitation centers.
