Technological contest in HCMC aiming at building smart city

The new season of the biannual technological creations contest titled solutions and technologies to build a smart city has been launched by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), HCMC Department of Science and Technology, HCMC Federation of Labor, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in HCMC.

The organization board will receive entries of projects / solutions in seven fields of building a smart city, including electricity – electronics – information technology – telecommunications; mechanics – automation – transport; biotechnology – agriculture – food technology; material technology – construction – water resources – urban flood prevention; environment technology – reasonable use of resources – energy saving –  use of new energy; healthcare – professional and higher education.

The scientific board of each field will evaluate all submitted projects in accordance with the metrics of novelty and creativity, feasibility, concrete economic and social effects.

Technological solutions in the forms of products, equipment, material, procedures, and microorganism material will be assessed via the scale of technological creations of the contest. Excellent projects will then be sent to the National Contest of Technological creations.

Research projects in district, department, and industry levels which have passed inspection with above average results and which can meet requirements of the VIFOTEC Awards will be nominated.

Any projects and solutions from the third prizes up will be financially support for the experimental process and implementation into reality.

Since 1990, the technological contest has contributed to timely and effectively honoring all silent efforts of many organizations as well as individuals for their creativity and work. It has also been successful in igniting the spirit of competition in order to create more technological products and solutions to serve the society and to boost the economic growth of HCMC.


In October 2017, the organization board presented awards for 20 excellent solutions taking part in the contest in the period from 2015-2016 in the six fields of healthcare; biotechnology and agriculture; environment technology and chemical technology; mechanics – automation; electronics – information technology; education and vocational training.

In that previous season, the medical field dominated the whole contest with 6 out of 25 submitted projects winning the award. Noticeably, the solution of ‘A machine to wield and drill a branch on the HDPE tube without temporarily terminating water supply’ of Nguyen Xuan Hoai, Ngo Duy Thang, and partners is absolutely essential in water services of HCMC at the moment.
