Most of the Russian tourists stranded in Mui Ne in the central province of Binh Thuan after their tour operator suspended operations, have left Vietnam for their country, according to the Binh Thuan Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The remaining will depart Vietnam anytime from now until February 9, informed the department.
Konstantin, managing director of Lanta-Viet Company in Vietnam, said at a meeting on Feb. 1 held at the Lang Tre (Bamboo Village) in Phan Thiet City that the contract between Lanta-Tour and the central bank of Russia would take effect within the next few days.
Accordingly, Lanta-Viet Company will resume operations at their office in the Hai Au Resort in Phan Thiet City.
The Russian visitors were left stranded in Vietnam after Lanta-Tour Voyach, one of Russia's biggest travel companies, declared bankruptcy and suspended operations.
Some resorts willingly agreed for several of the Russian tourists to stay on as per their tour plan, and in other cases some of the tourists paid for their own stay at the resorts.
Meanwhile the Bamboo Village Resort and the Novotel Hotel, both of which housed many of the tourists, are battling it out with Lanta-Tour Voyach for outstanding payments. Other resorts want the Russian Consulate General to intervene to reclaim debt.
Today, another 71 Russian tourists will complete formalities for returning home and the last six visitors will go back by February 9 at the latest.
