Stocks add small rise

The Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index slightly edged up on June 27 with support from some blue-chip stocks amid investors’ wariness.

The gauge of 286 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange inched up 0.2 percent, or 0.85 points, to close at 434.25 points.

Among the benchmark members, 103 climbed, 110 shrank, while 78 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse gained by 16 percent in volume, and 160 percent in value over the previous trading session as 25.5 million shares changed hands at a value of VND1.06 trillion.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, led the board of most active shares in volume with 804,270 shares changing hands.

PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVT) followed with 680,360 shares traded.

Vinh Son - Song Hinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company (VSH) came next with 675,880 shares.

Viet - Han Corporation (VHG) strengthened 4.94 percent to close at VND8,500.

Thong Nhat Rubber Joint Stock Company (TNC) leaped forward 4.83 percent to close at VND15,200.

Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) accelerated 4.8 percent to VND26,200.

Dat Xanh Real Estate Service & Construction Corporation (DXG) sank for four consecutive trading sessions, closing down 8.71 percent to close at VND22,000. The company will pay dividends for the year 2010 to its current shareholders at a ratio of 30 percent in cash on August 30.

Industrial Urban Development Joint Stock Company No. 2 (D2D) and Ba Ria - Vung Tau House Development Joint Stock Company (HDC) both ditched 5 percent to VND19,000 and VND20,900 respectively.

Phuong Nam Cultural Joint Stock Corporation (PNC) snapped its four-straight-trading-session-winning streak, paring 4.92 percent to close at VND5,800.

Meanwhile, the Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north fell 0.2 percent, or 0.15 points, to finish at 75.63 points. Trading on the northern market slightly improved over the previous trading session as 24.35 million shares worth VND293.63 billion changed hands.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares bounded 0.15 points, or 0.46 percent, to 32.54 points. A total of 177,400 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.37 billion as of 1:50 pm local time.
