A Southeast Asian Documentary Award has just been launched by the Goethe-Institute for students from 18-28 years of age in Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
This award will be given to winners of a competition that calls for student contestants to submit a portfolio of their work and a motivational essay on making a film, entitled “Tree of Life, Seeds of Change” by September 2 this year.
A jury panel from the world of film, television and environment from each country will select three winners for a cash prize of US$ 500 each.
The shortlisted contestants will then receive expert guidance for the duration of the 8 week production period of their competition film.
They will receive a budget grant of US$ 300 to produce a short documentary film (maximum 10 minutes), to be submitted by November 11 this year.
The first prize winner will receive US$ 5,000 to produce a feature length documentary.
The competition aims to encourage the art of documentary filmmaking in Southeast Asian countries and serve as a platform to address important issues such as social unrest and environmental degradation.
