Local fishermen caught a shark weighing about one ton on February 4 off the coast of Xuan Hai Commune in Phu Yen Province. It is the first-ever netted shark in the central province.

The shark was caught by local fisherman Nguyen Trong and his two sons while they were dragnet fishing, also with assistance from some of his colleagues.
The first shark caught in the sea at the commune is five meters long and has a circumference of 3.5 meters at its widest.
Trong has offered to sell the shark for VND50 million, but scientists from the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute have asked him to donate it for scientific purposes.
Xuan Hai Commune neighbors Quy Nhon City in Binh Dinh Province, where several residents have been attacked by an unknown fish suspected to be a shark. The fish had inflicted serious founds on the people as they were bathing in the sea.
Quy Nhon City had announced a VND10 million award to anyone who could catch the fish. The city had also asked experienced fishermen to suggest ways to catch the fish or prevent it from attacking people.
