SGGP has received a steady stream of reader opinions over the last few days, stating that heavy vehicular truck traffic also plied on other roads like Ton Duc Thang Street and Nguyen Van Linh Highway but no cracks or depressions had occurred there.

Luong Hoang Trung, Deputy Chairman of the Cargo Transport Association in HCMC said that the East West Highway, at a cost of VND10 trillion (US$476), was built for all kinds of vehicular traffic like buses, cars and trucks. Hence, it was not sound to blame trucks for the cracks and depressions on the road.

Experts suggest that the highway investor hire an independent consultant to find the cause that led to the highway road sinking in many places.

Cracks were found along East West Highway at the end of May, particularly on the stretch from the Inter-province Road 25B to Cat Lai Junction, which had 10-20cm deep visible cracks.
