Ho Chi Minh City will see alarmingly high flood tides at the beginning of April in the lower sections of the Saigon-Dong Nai River.
The Southern Regional Hydro Meteorological Center said the water level at Phu An Station on the Saigon River will reach 1.46 meters on April 1, while at Nha Be Station on Dong Dien Canal, the level will hit 1.45 meters.
The flood tides, in addition to northeastern winds, are expected to peak from 4am to 7am, and from 4pm to 8pm.
To mitigate damage from the tides, the city’s steering committee on flood and storm prevention has ordered district people’s committees to inspect and quickly consolidate vulnerable areas, especially where dykes have broken in the past.
