The rush of thousands of holidaymakers returning back to Ho Chi Minh City after the Reunification and Labor Day holidays caused massive traffic congestion at the City entrance gates.

Tens of thousands of people began returning to HCMC by the afternoon of May 1, with the volume of vehicles increasing much more by late afternoon.
Hanoi Highway was jammed with tens of thousands of vehicles lining up from Vung Tau Crossroad to the pedestrian flyover in front of Suoi Tien Tourist Site in Thu Duc District.
People streamed towards Cat Lai Ferry in Nhon Trach District in the neighboring province of Dong Nai, in their attempt to return to HCMC as soon as possible, most of these making their way from Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provinces.
The ferry management board supplemented an extra ten ferryboats to meet the rush demand.
